Clinic owner and therapist Ofelia Mendoza learned the ancient art of Aztec massage from her ancestors in Mexico, and she brings these unique traditions to her massage practice in Hurricane.

In conjunction with the grand opening, Mendoza and her husband, Louie Lundin, are sponsoring a fundraiser to support Dove Center, a local resource that is available 24/7 to provide safe shelter and victim advocacy to individuals and families impacted by domestic abuse and sexual assault.

Mendoza grew up in a small town in Jalisco, Mexico. From the time she was in her early teens, she engaged in learning the ancient art of Aztec massage from her grandparents and other village healers.

While learning about massage, she discovered how much she enjoys helping others and improving their quality of life.

Also while in Mexico, she attended a medical massage program provided through the military to further her knowledge of the subject. Mendoza practiced massage therapy in Mexico before immigrating to the United States with her children following the tragic loss of her brother.

After arriving in the U.S., Mendoza attended Zion Massage College in St. George to obtain her professional licensing. While attending college, she created friendships and improved her bilingual abilities.

Upon becoming licensed, she opened Aztec Massage Clinic to offer specialized healing services to others.

“There are very few that still practice the dying art of Aztec massage,” Mendoza said. “It is how the Aztec people lived and thrived for so long. I want to continue to share this ancient way. Aztec massage is unique and extremely beneficial.”

Extended hours and incentive pricing are being offered for the grand opening. The special event will run from 9 a.m to 9 p.m.

“A one-hour massage is regularly $60 to $80 per hour but on July 11, the cost is only $50 per hour, all of which will be donated directly to the Dove Center,” Lundin said.

“Everyone is invited, and we hope you’ll come out and support this great cause!”

Aztec Massage Clinic is located at 4 S. 2600 West, Hurricane. Regular hours at the clinic are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
