Firefighters in Short Creek battle blaze involving chicken coop, cheatgrass

COLORADO CITY, Ariz. — Fire crews in Short Creek responded to a structure fire Monday afternoon in Colorado City, Arizona.

Crews responded to the fire at Barlow and Black Avenue at 12:45 p.m. involving a chicken coop and railroad ties, Hildale/Colorado City Fire Chief Kevin Barlow said, adding that wild cheatgrass in the area was also ablaze.

Crews extinguished the blaze and remained on scene until about 2 p.m. to conduct a salvage and overhaul operation to ensure the fire was fully out.

The cause of the fire is unknown as of Monday afternoon, Barlow said, noting that the only damage was to the chicken coop.
