ST. GEORGE — Traffic in both directions on Interstate 15 in the Gorge is experiencing “significant backup” according the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The backup is the result of the Arizona Department of Transportation’s bridge improvements project on the I-15 corridor through the Virgin River Gorge. Motorists should anticipate waits of an hour or more while traveling through the area. Southbound 1-15 is experiencing backups from Cedar Pocket to the bottom of the Gorge. Northbound lanes are backed up from Beaver Dam through the construction.

Those seeking to avoid the traffic backup in the Virgin River Gorge may take Highway 91 as an alternate route, which may save travel time and reduce congestion.

The highway bypasses the Gorge entirely, intersecting with I-15 at Exit 8 in Littlefield, Arizona, to the south and connecting to St. George at the north via Santa Clara and Sunset Boulevard. See map included in this article.
