ST. GEORGE – The St. George Rotary Club invites the community to help in outfitting roughly 800 homeless students in the Washington County School District by supporting the “socks for school” program.

The Rotary Club is putting on the program in partnership with the Southern Utah chapter of the Assistance League,

To assist the new partnership in helping children in need, simply purchase socks – preferably in white – but they can be in any color, and design appropriate for children, and then deliver them to the front desk of the Best Western Abbey Inn. It’s located at 1129 S. Bluff Street in St. George, according to a press release issued by the organization last week.

Donations will then be placed in a new backpack, along with clothing items and school supplies, that will be distributed in time for the first day of the new school year. St. George children return to school on Monday, August 12.

The St. George Rotary Club is a 65-member humanitarian service organization, and one of 35,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries worldwide, including five in Washington County.

The organization provides “service above self” to help meet the needs of local and international communities.

“Your help with this simple but important service project is very much appreciated,” the statement said.
