SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — The Independent Pharmacy Cooperative has announced Stapley Pharmacy of St. George as the recipient of the Dan Moudry Most Valuable Pharmacy for 2019.
The MVP award was presented to Stapley Pharmacy owner Jana Stapley at the cooperative’s annual business meeting last Friday during McKesson ideaShare 2019 in Orlando, Florida.
Stapley Pharmacy has served St. George and the surrounding area for 40 years. The pharmacy has a history of community involvement, an endeavor led by the late Brad Stapley, according to a press release issued by the Independent Pharmacy Cooperative.
This community endeavor involved hiring a full-time director of education who scheduled lectures and disseminated educational materials. Some of the director’s efforts included university sponsorships, 5K race involvement and engagement with a coalition to help youth in middle and high schools understand the dangers of prescription and illicit drug abuse.
The single pharmacy started by Evan and Faith Stapley grew under Brad Stapley’s ownership. He worked in a joint effort with his parents to open two more locations and a nonretail pharmacy, which services all of the Southern Utah home health, hospice and long-term care facilities with packaging and delivery.
On Feb. 7, Brad Stapley died in an avalanche while snowmobiling. The incident left the ownership of the business in the hands of his wife, Jana Stapley. Brad Stapley’s kindness and desire to help others was well known in his community and his passing was felt throughout the St. George community.
“It is an honor to be able to recognize the Stapleys for their exemplary leadership and dedication to independent pharmacy and their community,” Independent Pharmacy Cooperative President and CEO Don Anderson said. “Stapley Pharmacy is a shining example of not just a voice for independent pharmacy, but a community leader”
Jana Stapley said the award is a powerful reminder of the influence pharmacies can have on the community.
“Stapley Pharmacy ends every advertisement in both print and radio with this quote, ‘Remember, your pharmacist is your most accessible health care professional,’” Jana Stapley said. “Stapley Pharmacy is not alone in our quest to make the world a healthier place. Partnership with IPC helps us maintain this effort and ultimately keep our patients as healthy as they want to be.”
