ST. GEORGE — A collision at the intersection of 700 East and Tabernacle Street Tuesday afternoon sent a car into the St. George City Cemetery.
St. George Police responded to the crash at around 1:20 p.m. Officers at the scene found a white Toyota passenger car in the road with damage to its right front end and a gray Chevrolet passenger car with front-end damage sitting in the middle of the eastern side of the cemetery.
St. George Police officer Tiffany Atkin said the Chevrolet was southbound on 700 East and the Toyota was eastbound when they collided.
It’s unknown if the driver of the Toyota stopped at the stop sign at the intersection, Atkin said, adding that either way, the driver of the Toyota is considered at fault.
The driver of the Toyota appeared unharmed, while the Chevrolet’s driver, a woman who is 26-weeks pregnant, was taken the hospital in a private vehicle for evaluation, Atkin said.
While the Chevrolet went over a number of headstones, Atkin said none appeared to have been damaged beyond getting a little scraped.
The St. George Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance and Dixie State University Department of Public Safety also responded to the scene.
This report is based on statements from police and may not contain the full scope of findings.
