ST. GEORGE — Police say a motorcyclist crashed in a construction zone on Interstate 15 near Hurricane Monday afternoon.

The driver of a Harley Davidson was traveling south on I-15 near mile marker 15 when he changed lanes and hit an uneven patch of roadway.

“The roadway is uneven from the construction, and when he hit that ridge, the bike went down,” Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jake Hicks said.

The motorcyclist was traveling in a group of eight riders from Detroit. The others turned around at the next exit to check on their companion.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center for treatment. The motorcycle had to be towed from the scene.

“It’s unfortunate, but thankfully he was okay,” Hicks said.

“One thing that we caution motorcycle riders to do is to watch the road and the conditions of the road, checking for gravel, debris, things in the roadway from construction, things like that, and kind of anticipate some of those problems,” Hicks said. “But it also can be unexpected.”

No citations were issued, and the driver was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
