CEDAR CITY — Nearly one week after a boil order was enacted at Brian Head, town officials announced Wednesday afternoon that the order has been lifted and the culinary water supply is once again safe to drink.
“All tests since Friday night have been clean, residual chlorine is out of the system and we’re still running clean,” Brian Head Town Manager Bret Howser told Cedar City News at 5 p.m., soon after the order was officially lifted.
The presence of E. coli bacteria was detected in Brian Head’s water supply Thursday, prompting town officials to warn residents to boil their drinking water or use bottled water until further notice.
Howser said the cause of the problem was likely due to “high runoff hitting the springs, which we’ve now turned out of the system.”
There were no confirmed cases of anyone becoming ill as a result of the contamination, he added.
In the town’s Facebook post announcing the lifting of the order, officials provided a set of instructions advising residents to flush their systems and appliances before using the water for culinary uses again.
