No Filter: How we disagree over politics can make the difference

FEATURE — It seems many have forgotten how to have high-quality debates in recent years, and with the 2020 political season ramping up, conversations are likely to get more divisive.

For Grady Sinclair, being able to speak openly with each other about our differences of opinion, and still remain friends, is the most important part of debates. This week he sits down with Paul Ford for a podcast edition of the “No Filter” show with syndicated radio talk show host Kate Dalley to discuss the state of political discourse in America.

Watch Paul and Grady discuss civil debate with Kate Dalley on the latest episode of “No Filter” in the media player above.

Ford calls Dalley Southern Utah’s own Rush Limbaugh. She has been on the airwaves for the past eight years, and with over 400 guests on her show every year, Dalley has become a powerful voice in talk radio. She spends one hour on local news and two hours discussing national issues on her daily show.

Admittedly a die-hard conservative, Dalley considers herself a constitutional conservative who is aware there are people from both political parties that deserve criticism – a point she likes to continuously poke at while on the air.

She said that, for her, it’s all about going back to principles.

A lot of people are uncomfortable with that, especially when you’re naming names,” she said.

“I try to take a stab at politics in general,” Dalley said.”Both sides of the aisle – nobody’s safe.” She said she does it despite the fact it can be a tough thing to do in a highly-conservative state like Utah.

Does your passion for principles keep you blinded to the opinions of others? Take a deep look at each of our personal convictions and how to handle them on this episode of “No Filter.”
