SPRINGDALE — The body of a 20-year-old bicyclist was found an hour after his mother reported him missing.

According to Springdale Police Department spokesman Britt Ballard, Bryce Hagenson left his home at 10 a.m. on Monday, traveling to work on his bike. His mother contacted police to report her son missing around 6:45 p.m.

Ballard said police were beginning their investigation when a citizen out on a walk called to report a body on Grafton Road around 7:40 p.m. Police arrived on scene within minutes and were able to identify the body as Hagenson.

Hagenson was found lying face down in an irrigation ditch with his bicycle laying on top of him.

Ballard said Hagenson was not wearing a helmet at the time and that police determined the cause of death was a “tragic bicycle accident.”

According to police, Hagenson was traveling down a long, steep hill with a sharp turn at the bottom. As he was approaching the bottom of the hill, Hagenson missed the turn and rode into the canal.
