ST. GEORGE — Fireworks tents are shooting up in parking lots all over town, signaling the countdown is on for the city of St. George and 99.9 KONY “4th of July Celebration,” and organizers say they hope the event will continue to be a beloved family tradition.

“It’s getting out with your family and friends for food, fun, music, entertainment and of course the fireworks,” said 99.9 KONY Country’s Marty Lane, who has been planning the event for months and is getting excited to see everyone having a great time.

This year’s headliner, small-town boy and country music star Michael Ray told St. George News he is also looking forward to seeing people come together and celebrate at the biggest fireworks show in Southern Utah. Hot off one of the best years of his career with three No. 1 singles, he said it has been amazing having the chance to relate to people with his music.

“There have been countless special moments that I’ve experienced on the road this year, however, performing in new cities and connecting with new fans has been the most meaningful – even if as just one of a few songs at the (Grand Ole) Opry,” Ray said.

Tickets for the show are on sale now through links on KONY’s website and Dixie State University’s online ticket site for only $10 for a full evening of patriotic fun. Prices will remain low for the next two weeks until July 4.

We want to make it affordable for everyone in the family to go,” Lane said.

Ray’s latest album, “Amos,” has something for everyone, from soulful ballads to “boot-stomping rockers” and he said every song was created with live performances in mind and being able to make a connection with the audience.

“Amos” is a very symbolic album because it’s named after his late grandfather who helped shaped him both personally and professionally and sharing it with the world has been really special, he said.

“It’s unreal to watch listeners from Australia to London and across the country enjoy and respond so positively. It means the world to me,” Ray said. “I am so overwhelmed with gratitude for my family, friends and fans who’ve supported me through this incredible and continuous journey. The success of the album makes my family very proud.”

Gates open at 5:30 p.m with Jason McNabb & The Reign set to hit the stage at 7:30 p.m. to kick off the fun. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m.

DSU’s Trailblazer Stadium is located at 501 S. University Ave., St. George. For more information about the 99.9 KONY Country “4th of July Celebration” visit the website.
