Failure to yield yields crash with one car wedged under another

ST. GEORGE — No injuries were reported after a black Kia Soul ended up on top of the hood of a blue Volkswagen Tiguan.

According to St. George Police officer David McDaniel, the Volkswagen was eastbound on E. Riverside Drive in the left lane when the Kia failed to yield to oncoming traffic and attempted a left turn from a parking lot.

Traffic in the right lane heading east had been backed up when a man stopped and waved the Kia out of the parking lot. The driver of the Volkswagen hit his brakes in an attempt to avoid the collision, but skidded into the Kia.

Officers temporarily blocked eastbound traffic Riverside Drive, but it was reopened after both cars were towed from the scene.

No major injuries were reported, but the driver of the Volkswagen left the scene with scrapes and burns on his shoulder and face from the airbag.

The driver of the Kia received a citation for failure to yield when entering or crossing the road.

This report is based on statements from police and witness accounts and may not contain the full scope of findings.
