Rescuers respond to The Subway in Zion National Park for injured woman

ST. GEORGE — Zion National Park rangers called the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue to aid in the rescue of an injured woman near The Subway.

According to park officials, it was an isolated incident involving one or more extreme injuries.

The woman is in her mid-20s and was about a quarter of a mile into The Subway when she sustained an injury to her ankle which left her unable to walk.

A helicopter was called in to get an aerial view of the incident and extract the woman.

The Subway is about a 9 mile hike through the Left Fork of North Creek. The hike calls for crossing water and climbing boulders as well as finding the proper route.
