Officer finds body floating in pond in Mesquite

ST. GEORGE — A police officer discovered a body while on patrol in Mesquite, Nevada, Saturday afternoon.

The officer was driving near the intersection of Redd Hills Parkway and Fountain View Lane when he saw a person floating in a pond at a nearby golf course, according to a press release from the Mesquite Police Department.

“The officer approached the pond on foot and observed the adult in the water was deceased,” Mesquite Police Sgt. Wyatt Oliver wrote in the release, adding that officers recovered the body with the help of paramedics.

The nature of the person’s death is currently unknown, and detectives responded to assess the area.

Oliver told St. George News the department is not speculating on the cause of death at this time due to the pending investigation.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the identify of the body once it receives positive identification and next of kin are notified.
