ST. GEORGE — Dixie State University’s new Master of Athletic Training program is now registering students for the Fall 2019 semester.
Preparing students to provide comprehensive patient care as athletic training professionals, the master’s degree will provide hands-on learning experiences using a skills-based approach in both the classroom and in a clinical setting, according to a press release issued by Dixie State.
Students will learn how to offer care in the areas of prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate and emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation, and organization and professional health.
“Not only will Dixie State University’s new Master of Athletic Training program prepare students to be well-prepared, competent and compassionate athletic trainers, the program also meets a workforce need in a profession that is expected to significantly grow in the coming years,” Peter J. Neibert, Dixie State’s program director for athletic training, said in the press release.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are qualified to take the Board of Certification exam to become certified athletic trainers and be qualified to work in professional and collegiate sports, secondary and intermediate schools, sports medicine clinics, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, fitness centers, military programs and physician offices.
The program will make its home in Dixie State’s new 155,000-square-foot Human Performance Center, which includes a 1,300-square-foot athletic training lab outfitted with therapeutic equipment.
“If you are interested in becoming a healthcare professional, come join us in our state-of-the-art Human Performance Center, opening Fall 2019,” Neibert said.
Open to students who have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and maintained an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher, the program will accept student registration until Aug. 1, with fall classes beginning Aug. 19.
