CEDAR CITY  A new scholarship available at Southern Utah University aims to help individuals go back to school and complete a bachelor’s degree they started but never finished.

The Finish Line Scholarship will provide up to four semesters of resident tuition funding at SUU for qualifying students. The scholarship gives people with some college credit a new opportunity to succeed and finish what they started without the additional financial burden.

“There are many people who have some college experience but weren’t able to finish their degree,” said Roger LaMarca, SUU’s executive director of enrollment management.

Deciding to go back to college is a big decision. SUU’s online offerings give people multiple options and pathways to success.

“We want to provide them with an opportunity that’s convenient, flexible and affordable so they can complete their college education,” LaMarca said. “That’s why we created the Finish Line Scholarship.”

SUU Online offers associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs along with a variety of resources to help students earn their degree faster. This includes Prior Learning Assessments, which provide college credit for life experience, and the Bridge Program, which is designed to help undergraduate students work on their master’s degree while completing their bachelor’s.

“We think getting a bachelor’s degree is an affordable investment that leads to higher salaries and a better quality of life,” LaMarca said. “SUU wants to help students pay for their education and future success.”

Features and benefits of the Finish Line Scholarship include:

  • Full funding of four semesters resident tuition for students who qualify for Pell Grants.
  • Half funding of four semesters resident tuition for students who don’t qualify for Pell Grants.
  • Access to a personal adviser who will help students find financial aid and programs that decrease the time to graduate.

Nonresident students residing outside of Utah and taking all online courses are eligible to receive in-state tuition.

The Finish Line Scholarship began accepting applications Thursday. Visit the Finish Line Scholarship website for more information.
