ST. GEORGE — The Washington County Fair is inviting the public to participate in national anthem auditions next Saturday for the 2019 County Fair.

The auditions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 15 in the Grafton Building at the Legacy Park/County Fairgrounds at 5500 W. 700 South in Hurricane.

According to a press release from the Washington County Fair organizers, the audition will be organized on a first-come, first-served basis. Assigned audition numbers will be given upon registration, so organizers will be unable to accommodate number switching.

The audition is open to the general public, and entrants may comprise individuals or groups of eight people or fewer.

There will be up to eight renditions of the national anthem performed over the four-day county fair, so several individuals will be chosen. All participants in the audition will be notified by email whether they have been invited to perform.

The fair will be held Aug. 7-10 and features a petting zoo, live entertainment, junior rodeo, barrel racing, commercial booths, food, free waterslides and other events and activities.

Audition details

“It is required that the National Anthem be sung a cappella and in a traditional manner, with no styling or individual musical interpretation,” the release states. “Please keep in mind that the National Anthem is about honoring America and the men and women who serve, or have served, our country, and not about the individual or small group singing the piece.”

The anthem is also to be sung in “a straightforward manner with the utmost respect and honor for what the song stands for.”

If selected, the performer(s) must sing the same version at their scheduled time in the same manner as at the audition.

Professional attire is required. Those auditioning are also required to bring an 8.5-inch by 11-inch headshot of themselves or their group.
