CEDAR CITY — Police say a driver made an improper U-turn on a residential street in Cedar City Friday evening, resulting in a two-vehicle collision.

The incident, which occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on 300 West, involved a red Jeep Commander SUV and a silver Nissan Altima passenger car.

Cedar City Police Sgt. Dave Bulloch said both vehicles were traveling in the same direction, southbound on 300 West, when the Jeep driver decided to make a U-turn.

“As they made the U-turn, it was sideswiped by the silver car,” Bulloch said.

Both cars ended up on the east side of the street, with the Altima’s front end striking the curb on the northbound shoulder in front of a house at 475 S. 300 West.

No serious injuries were reported. The female driver of the Altima was briefly checked out by Gold Cross Ambulance medical personnel at the scene for possible whiplash, but she was not transported for further treatment. Neither car had any occupants other than the driver.

Bulloch said the driver of the Jeep, who was not injured, would likely receive a citation for improper lookout when making the U-turn.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
