CEDAR CITY — Southern Utah University has announced that the Plain White T’s will be performing at the opening ceremonies of the Utah Summer Games next week.
The ceremonies will take place June 14, at 8:30 p.m. at Eccles Coliseum at Southern Utah University, and according to a press release, it will include the parade of athletes and a fireworks display in addition to the Plain White T’s performance.
“The opening ceremonies is a celebration of hard work, perseverance, dedication and selflessness that is learned through participating in sporting events,” Pace Clarke, executive director of the Utah Summer Games, said in the press release. “I can’t think of a better way to start the summer.”
The Plain White T’s is a Grammy Award-nominated band including members Tom Higgenson, Tim Lopez, Dave Tirio, Mike Retondo and De’Mar Hamilton. Their song “Hey There Delilah” went quadruple-platinum, topped the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a pair of 2008 Grammy nominations for Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a duo or group with vocal. Along the way, the group logged countless miles on the road in front of sold out crowds in nearly every corner of the globe.
Tickets to the opening ceremonies are $10 for reserved chair-back seating and $8 for general admission and can be purchased online, by calling 435-586-7872 or by visiting the Thunderbird ticket office.
“I know residents like to watch the Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games fireworks show from porches or backyards, but I invite you to come and celebrate with us in Eccles Coliseum,” Clarke said. “I promise it is so much better inside the Coliseum.”
