ST. GEORGE — The St. George Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding those responsible for the vandalism of an art installation in the center of town.
The piece of art, which is titled “Duck Parade” and is part of the annual Art Around the Corner citywide installation, includes a line of ducks, and the last duck in the row seems to have been either taken or kicked off, St. George Police officer Tiffany Atkin said.
According to Utah law, vandalism can be charged as criminal mischief in Utah. When it relates to intentionally damaging, defacing or destroying the property of another, vandalism can range from a misdemeanor to a felony depending on the extent of the damages. Criminal mischief can be considered a second degree felony if the damages total over $5,000.
Atkin said the damaged statue was originally valued at $5,500, but officials currently do not know the cost of the damages. The incident was reported to police Tuesday morning.
