ST. GEORGE — Kindermusik is returning to St. George.

Root for Kids hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday for the grand opening of a licensed Kindermusik studio. Guests were invited to pick up any of the instruments around the colorful classroom and join in the singing of “You Are My Sunshine” before gathering for the ribbon-cutting.

Chief Executive Officer Suzanne Leonelli preceded the ribbon-cutting by thanking the staff and sponsors. She said the Kindermusik studio has been 2 years in the making.

“I always have a big heart, it’s always full when I see so many people from the community that support the work that we do,” she said. “Thank you guys for your love and for being here with us.”

Leonelli also introduced Susan Thompson as a Kindermusik educator. Thompson will be the instructor helping students work through the music and movement program. She said the program is for newborns to 5-year-old children.

Thompson said she is looking forward to working with the children and hopefully growing the program.

Kindermusik provides classes that integrate a number of skills through music and movement to make learning fun and seamless.

Thompson is not only a Kindermusik instructor, but also a Kindermusik parent. Her children went through the program, and as a parent she said she trusted the process because it is based on science and reliable principles.

Kindermusik benefited her daughter even after she left the program. She said as her daughter has grown, she has maintained a love for music and has excelled in subjects related to music, like science and math.

“There’s a direct benefit to the things we are doing in class as far as it goes with their development and learning,” Thompson said.

Kindermusik focuses on a number of concepts, including expressive language, sensory awareness and cognition, while encouraging whole body movement and musical skill. The children will sing, play instruments and hear stories while developing these abilities.

Root for Kids was formerly known at The Learning Center for Families and is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to serve young children throughout Washington County and along the Arizona Strip.

According to a news release from Root for Kids, the organization has helped over 15,000 children and families overcome challenges and obtain the necessary life skills to excel since 1993.

Kindermusik classes are $30 per week, and enrollment for the fall 2019 semester opens in August. More information is available here.
