Grady Clocks In: Finding the perfect night of ZZZs at Mattress Direct

FEATURE — On average, human beings spend a third of every day and 25 years of their lives trying to sleep, and often the difference between a rejuvenating night and a terrible next day at work begins with a quality mattress that keeps you comfortable.

Queen pillowtop? Medium firm or soft? Exactly how thick does a mattress need to be to ensure the best night’s rest?

Canyon Media’s Grady Sinclair thought he knew a lot about mattresses, but in this week’s episode of “Grady Clocks In,” he learns from owner Sean Good at Mattress Direct there are dozens of types and styles available.

The most important thing to consider before buying is the firmness of the mattress, and everyone needs something different. People that sleep on their stomach might prefer a mattress that is more rigid, side sleepers usually find comfort in something softer and back sleepers will want to have the softest mattress they can find.

For people suffering with back pain, the right mattress should provide even support and relieve pressure at key points of the body like the hips, buttocks, back and shoulders, and a thicker mattress with multiple layers of gel and memory foam could be the answer.

Usually, the more a person weighs, the firmer the mattress and more support they will need. The best way to decide is to give each one a try and find out what works for you.

“There are so many levels of comfort it’s amazing,” Grady said.

Will Grady be able to keep his head off the pillow and stay awake long enough to sell someone the perfect mattress?
