ST. GEORGE  Three men escaped serious injury after their vehicle rolled over Tuesday evening near Cedar City.

According to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Ryan Bauer, the white Toyota Tacoma was westbound on state Route 14 near mile marker 3 when the driver of the vehicle lost control. A rock had come into the road, and the driver swerved to avoid it before losing control, he said.

The vehicle veered to the right of the roadside and collided with the hillside off of the right shoulder, Bauer said. The collision caused the vehicle to rollover and push the Toyota onto its top.

The driver was pinned under the truck until first responders were able to lift the vehicle off of him.

All three men escaped with minor injuries, although the driver left the scene with a hand injury that was “pretty serious,” Bauer said. One passenger has a head injury, and the other has minor cuts and scratches.

“None of them are critical or anything like that, but they are just going to need some medical attention,” he said.

Bauer said he was unsure of how big the rock that caused the accident was, but said it was small enough for witnesses to move it out of the road. The rock was not in the road when first responders arrived, he said.

This report is based on statements from police and may not contain the full scope of findings.
