Jo Ann Shartzer

April 1, 1944 – May 21, 2019

On May 21, 2019, an angel transitioned to heaven. Jo Ann Shartzer passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Jo Ann was born April 1, 1944, in Flagstaff, Arizona, to Joseph D. Terrin and Anna Mineer. She had one brother, Terrance D. Terrin, and one sister, Linda (Terrin) Daniels.

She spent her youth at the Navajo Army Depot outside Flagstaff, Arizona, where her father was a fire chief. She graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1962.

She met her husband, Ralph, in Flagstaff, Arizona, and they were married on May 9, 1963. They were married for 56 loving years.

After they were married, Ralph’s pursuit to become an Arizona Highway patrolman required they move to Phoenix, Arizona. They moved to Gila Bend, Arizona, in 1963 where Ralph was first stationed. Here they had two children, Derick and Tera. In 1969, they moved back to Phoenix, Arizona. In 1976 Ralph was assigned to patrol the Arizona Strip and Virgin River Gorge. Ralph and Jo Ann decided to settle down in the beautiful city of St. George, Utah.

In St. George, Jo Ann worked for Kelwood/Kelty Industries and Moore Business Forms. She retired in 1999. Jo Ann loved gardening, traveling and all animals. She was known for always carrying a can of cat food and dog treats in case she found a hungry stray animal.

Jo Ann was a faithful member of the LDS church and always found comfort in the love which surrounded her. Jo Ann was a very unselfish, loving and beautiful person always putting everyone else before herself.

She was predeceased by her father Joe, mother Anna and brother Terry.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband Ralph, son Derick (Teresa), daughter Tera (Tom) Hodges, sister Linda (Brian) Daniels, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Jo Ann’s wishes were that in lieu of services and flowers, that you remember her by donating to the American Diabetes Association, the American/National Kidney Foundation or your favorite charity.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Encompass Home Health and Encompass Hospice, especially Lynette, Leslie, M’Liss and TJ for the wonderful way they took care her.

We would also like to thank Diedre at IHC Wound Clinic for her care, concern and compassion.
