ST. GEORGE — A 38-year-old man was arrested for voyeurism Tuesday after he allegedly used his cell phone to record a woman changing her clothes in a thrift-store dressing room, according to St. George Police.
Rafael Quinteros of St. George was arrested and charged with one count of voyeurism by electronic equipment concealed or disguised, a class A misdemeanor.
The arrest stems from an incident reported earlier that day when investigators were dispatched to Switchpoint Thrift Store at 948 N. 1300 West to investigate a report of lewdness.
Officers spoke to the woman who told them that a man had recorded her while she was in one of the store’s dressing rooms, according to the probable cause statement filed with the court in support of the arrest.
The woman said that as she was changing in the dressing room she happened to look down and saw “a hand holding a cell phone with the recording lens facing toward her,” the statement said.
She also told officers that as soon as she yelled at the person he quickly withdrew his hand.
The store’s surveillance footage showed a man exiting the dressing rooms, then leaving store. He was seen getting into a company vehicle and driving away.
Police noticed the man was wearing a shirt imprinted with the name of a landscaping business where they found Quinteros who matched the description of the male on the video.
Police say that during questioning the defendant admitted to being at the thrift store but denied recording in the dressing rooms.
Quinteros was arrested and booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility on one count of voyeurism and was charged the following day.
The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in 5th District Court and remains in custody on $5,000 bail.
This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
