ST. GEORGE — St. George Police Chief Richard Farnsworth will talk about how to keep your business safe at the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce’s Training Luncheon this Wednesday at Dixie Technical College.

About Richard Farnsworth

According to a press release from the chamber, Richard Farnsworth began his career with the St. George Police Department in 1992 as a reserve police officer. He was offered a full-time position in 1993 and spent the next 5 years working in the patrol division. He worked as a field training officer, SWAT team member and as a defensive tactics instructor.

In 1998, Farnsworth was transferred to the Washington County Drug Task Force as a detective. He worked in the task force for three years before being promoted to sergeant in 2000. He supervised a patrol shift for four years and served as the SWAT team leader during that time period.

In 2005, Farnsworth was promoted to lieutenant and served as a watch commander in the patrol division. He was promoted to captain and spent time as both the special enforcement division commander and the patrol commander. He was promoted to deputy chief in May of 2011 and served in that position until St. George Police Chief Marlon Stratton retired in September of last year. Farnsworth was appointed chief of police in September 2018.
