CEDAR CITY — The Orchestra of Southern Utah is preparing to undertake an epic adventure Saturday into a magical world filled with fairies, hobbits and magic rings – all the while leaving breadcrumbs in a magical forest.

The Children’s Jubilee concert, titled “Fairy Tale Adventures,” will take at the Heritage Center in Cedar City, and in addition to the concert, children will be able to participate in various activities. Attendees are invited to dress up as a fairy tale character of their choice.

“It’s an event for families for all ages and with a magical theme of fairy tales,” event organizers stated in a news release.

The Heritage Center lobby, which will be transformed into a whimsical story scene, will open at 1 p.m. The concert starts and 2 p.m., before which there will be a variety of activities, such as a photo booth, instruments for the children to try out, face painting, coloring pages and live animals.

For the concert, the Orchestra of Southern Utah will perform magical pieces, from a journey with hobbits a la “Fellowship of the Ring” to a trip into the forest with Hansel and Gretel. The orchestra will also be joined by a children’s choir that will navigate the audience to Neverland and tell the story of Peter Pan, with narration by Desmond Penny.

After the concert, there will be additional activities, including science experiments, music and art activities.

Several community and university organizations are scheduled to help provide activities, including the SUU Animal Ambassadors, Cedar Music Store and Cedar City Arts Council.
