CEDAR CITY — An Enoch City resident was airlifted to Salt Lake City early Sunday morning after being repeatedly stabbed with a knife, and a suspect has been arrested.
The victim remains in critical condition, according to a news release from the Iron County Attorney’s Office. Authorities have not yet released any personal information.
John Weston Oshley, 38, was booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility on first-degree felony charges for attempted aggravated murder and aggravated burglary.
Iron County Attorney Chad Dotson said the incident is still under investigation and details of why it occurred are not being released at this time.
There is evidence that Oshley entered the Enoch dwelling unlawfully and assaulted the victim with a knife covering the victim’s body with life-threatening stab wounds, according to the news release.
Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:53 a.m. to the residence located at 4596 North Enoch Road.
A female called dispatch and reported a man outside screaming for help. The victim also called dispatch and said he had been stabbed.
Police found the victim covered in blood and had several wounds to his body and head, consistent with an assault and stabbing, Dotson said.
“Large amounts of blood were found all over the inside of the alleged victim’s house, as well as in the carport area outside of the home,” the news release states.
The victim allegedly identified Oshely as his attacker to police while being treated by medical personnel.
At that time, authorities secured a search warrant for Oshley’s residence located in Cedar City, where they allegedly found clothes and a weapon containing a large amount of blood in a garbage can near his home. The clothes are suspected to belong to Oshley, according to the news release.
Blood was also allegedly found in a vehicle parked in front of Oshley’s residence during a subsequent search.
“Oshley is suspected to have driven this vehicle to and from the location of the alleged victim’s home,” the news released states.
Oshley refused to answer questions or make a statement during a police interview.
Oshley remains in jail on a $100,000 cash-only bail.
