FEATURE — Having a positive self-image can be one of the most important things in life for some people, and more than ever Americans are seeking out cosmetic treatments to provide a boost to their confidence and ensure they project their absolute best side to the world.
Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Steven Peine of Vivida Dermatology is often asked about the different types of cosmetic treatments available on the market today and how they work.
The skin experts at Vivida have a dedicated team of dermatology doctors and surgeons ready to provide state-of-the-art care and services, including Botox, dermal fillers, microneedling, chemical peels and a wide variety of laser treatments. Peine called their laser treatments “very versatile.” He said:
We have laser treatments available for brown spots, for red spots. We have lasers that will tighten the skin. We have lasers that will rejuvenate the skin and help take away fine lines and we have lasers that resurface the entire face. We have a pretty good variety of lasers here.
Botox is the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic treatment in the United States, with over 6 million people undergoing the procedure every year. It is effective in reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and it is a long-lasting option, Peine said.
“Botox typically will last from four to six months,” he said. “Sometimes it lasts a little bit longer, the more treatments you have, but if you’re just starting with Botox, you can expect four months of effect, and then with subsequent treatments, it can be longer.”
Peine said another question that frequently comes up is regarding cost and coverage.
“First of all, cosmetic treatments are just that: They’re cosmetic, and they’re not medically necessary,” he said. “So a question I commonly get is, ‘Are they covered by insurance?’ and typically they’re not.”
However, depending on the type of cosmetic treatment a patient is seeking, there are affordable options. He said Vivida has competitive pricing within the local area, and they offer a good value for their treatments.
“Cosmetic treatments can run the range from of less than $100 for treating a simple lesion to several thousand dollars for a full-face resurfacing with a CO2 laser,” Peine said.
