ST. GEORGE — The St. George branch of American Association of University Women is inviting the public to “A Night of Inspiration,” a fundraiser for the girls and women in the community.
The proceeds from this annual fundraiser, which will take place Friday at the SunRiver Ballroom, are used to award scholarships to women attending Dixie State University. Last year AAUW awarded almost $42,000 to several dozen students, according to a press release from the organization.
This year the AAUW-St. George branch is honored to have the following keynote speakers: Hildale City Mayor Donia Jessop and Dixie State student Amy Barlow. Their message will be one of empowerment growing up in a Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints community: “I am the Master of my Fate.”
A social hour accompanied by entertainment will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30. There will also be silent and live auctions.
Tickets are $85 per person and can be purchased online. Complimentary wine, champagne and Italian soda will be served.
The AAUW-St George branch is an extension of the national AAUW and is the largest branch in the state. There are over 170,000 AAUW members nationally with a commitment to supporting women in need.
The St. George branch meets on the first Monday of the month, September through May, and presents a variety of programs pertinent to the AAUW mission. All people are welcome to attend. According to AAUW, the mission of the branch, founded in 1981, is to help advance equity for women and girls in Utah through advocacy and education. It provides intellectually challenging programs for our community, scholarships for local students and a STEM Camp, named eSMART, for seventh grade girls.
