Beloved, Sherman Craven Miller returned home to his heavenly Father on Jan. 20, 2019, at the age of 77. Sherman was born in Murray, Utah, to Kermit Miller and Thora Craven on Aug. 27, 1941. He was the oldest of five children.

Sherman served in the Army in Korea and a church mission in Taiwan. After returning home, he fell in love with and married his sweetheart, Lynnette Rene Boyce, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Sherman adored Lynnette and knew he was going to marry her on their first date. Together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage, raised seven children, 23 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Sherman completed his degree in recreational management with a business minor at Utah State University. He worked in many capacities of recreation; some of his accomplishments include starting the St. George Marathon and the St. George Art Festival. Both of these events have flourished, attracting people from all over the world who have enjoyed the stunning beauty of St George.

With an enthusiastic nature and endearing love for children, Sherman was the best playmate any child could ever want. He was patient; he taught them to sound out letters, read, do crossword puzzles and play Boggle. His love of running, swimming, basketball, skiing, football, pickleball and golf was contagious. He appreciated the simplicities of life. He loved gardening and saving a wide variety of seeds, spending time in nature, taking trips to Pine Valley, Zion’s National Park and enjoying beautiful scenery.

Faithfully loving and serving heavenly Father was of utmost importance to Sherman. He and his wife Lynnette worked as a guest service missionary on Temple Square for six years. After moving back to St. George eight years ago, they served a mission at the FamilySearch Center. Sherman’s deep faith and love of God was evident in all aspects of his life, but especially in the way he shared his love with family and friends.

Sherman was preceded in death by his father Kermit Miller, his mother Thora Miller and his younger brother Edwin Miller.
