Norman Henry Carlisle

June 9, 1936 – Jan. 19, 2019

Norman Henry Carlisle, 82, passed away Jan. 19, 2019.  He was born on June 9, 1936, in Murray, Utah, to Milton and Eva Jane Silcox Carlisle.

Norman grew up in a small home at 3876 South and 700 West where the family farmed. He was the youngest of three children. He graduated from Granite High. He married Frankie McInelly and welcomed son Jeffery Paul and daughter Gealine.

He attended the police academy in 1969 and was president of his class. He retired from the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office in 1993.

Norman divorced and later, in 1982, met and married Denny Simkins Kastelic. He gained three children: Kristin, Victor and Andrea. They resided in Sandy, Utah, until Denny retired as principal of Bingham High School. They divided their time between the home in Star Valley, Wyoming, and their home in St. George. He loved to golf and enjoyed many hours on the course with family and friends.

Norman had a dynamic and fun personality. He loved music and laughter, and brought much joy to those around him. He had a helpful and giving heart.

Many thanks to the caregivers from Zions Way who so lovingly assisted him through his last few months. Thank you also to his neighbors, friends and extended family in St George, Salt Lake, Logan and Italy.

He leaves behind his wife Denny; daughters Geal (Jerry) Mangelson and Kristin Montoya; son Victor (Ellie) Kastelic; grandchildren Keaton, Cade, Cloee, Amy, Brittany, Jesse, Tommy, Zeno and Tazio; and 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his wonderful friend he called “son,” Dago Zelidon and family. Norman was preceded in death by his son Jeffery; daughter Andrea; brother Eugene Carlisle; and sister Myrle O’Dell Jefferies.

A gathering will be held in St. George, Utah, on Friday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd.  

Funeral services

  • Funeral services will be held in Sandy, Utah, on Saturday, Jan. 26, at noon, with a visitation at 11 a.m., at the Eastridge 8th Ward, 1020 East Sunburn Lane.
  • Interment will be at the Riverton City Cemetery, 1520 W. 13200 South.
