ST. GEORGE — A teenager in Layton crashed her vehicle into another car after covering her eyes while driving, Layton City Police reported Friday.

The collision happened Monday when the teen was reportedly attempting to do a “Bird Box Challenge,” wherein people film themselves doing things while blindfolded, as shown in the current hit Netflix movie “Bird Box.”

“Bird Box challenge while driving … predictable result,” the Layton Police Department’s tweeted on Friday as it posted pictures of both damaged vehicles.

Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman told St. George News on Friday that the incident occurred on the Layton Parkway. The girl, who was accompanied by a 16-year-old male passenger, was driving a gray pickup truck that collided with the side of a small white Honda passenger car.

“She just drifted into the westbound lanes and then kind of overcorrected and hit that car and spun and hit a light pole,” Lyman said.

According to a report from Fox13Now, the girl used her beanie cloth cap as an impromptu blindfold.

No injuries were reported. The teen driver hasn’t yet been cited, but Lyman told St. George News a possible charge is being screened with the city attorney’s office.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Sounds more like the “Bird-brain Challenge” to me. That’s just plain dumb.

Like the name you gave it. It covers the stupidity of the choice the young lady made.

  • Shorm January 11, 2019 at 2:35 pm

Hey kids, you are not invinsible. I know you feel like you are, but you aren’t. The people around you aren’t invisible either and your dumb ideas could seriously injure or kill them and you.

She should try the bird box challenge and go hiking at the Grand Canyon.

It’s clearly reckless driving. And the damage shows that the collision happened at a speed that could’ve caused serious injury to someone. Do they get a pass because they are silly idiot teenies or will the law be enforced? At least mommy and daddy’s insurance will go way up. Teach your teenies not to be complete morons.

I don’t believe you can legislate stupidity. Just sayin’.

  • mshaw January 11, 2019 at 8:15 pm

We should tattoo stupid on her forehead while she is blindfolded!

  • utahdiablo January 11, 2019 at 8:46 pm

Take away her license for good, plenty of busses or bikes to pedal…just stay the hell away from me and mine

  • stevenxfiles January 11, 2019 at 9:30 pm

uh dad, maybe you gave her the car keys a few years too early???

  • Henry January 11, 2019 at 10:50 pm

We all do really stupid things when we’re young – hopefully she will be treated appropriately. Community Service, taking away her license for a year, restricting her use of social media, etc. But first, I hope that they arrest her, book her, have her spend a night or two in juvenile detention and basically scare the tar out of her.

Bird Box was really a stupid film. Just a poor excuse for a horror film. I felt like netflix’s version of ‘haunting of hill house’ was excellent though. So I know they’re capable of doing good films, series, etc.

Anyone know what kind of pickup that is? Looks like it’s got leaf springs up front so it must be really old. Late ’80s or early ’90s chevy of some kind? An S-10? For a minute I thought a nissan, but pretty sure it’s a chev of some sort.

Remember the good ol’ days when Really Stupid people were content just to eat Tide Pods and snort condoms up their noses…

  • chris keele January 12, 2019 at 1:50 pm

General motors ran leaf springs on the front of their pickup trucks thru 1987. This looks like a Chevrolet or GMC pickup for sure, and another thing I am sure of is there was one bone head driving which should not have been.

She should get a permanent ban on having a drivers license ….I cant begin to say what I want to say because St George news would just censor it anyways
