ST. GEORGE — Just as they had been exactly one week earlier, the road teams were victorious in all three Region 9 girls basketball contests Thursday night, as Snow Canyon won at Hurricane, Cedar beat Canyon View and Dixie won at Pine View.

Snow Canyon 42, Hurricane 37

In a close Region 9 matchup, the Snow Canyon Warriors emerged victorious over Hurricane, winning 42-37. The win moves the Warriors to 4-0 in region play.

While defense was the story of the game for the Warriors, Tylei Jensen gave Snow Canyon plenty of offense they needed to pull out the win, scoring 31 points and making 9-of-12 free throws in the fourth quarter to ice the game.

“She’s hard to guard one-on-one,” Snow Canyon coach Ryan Rarick said. “We ran some sets for her and she took advantage and had a great game.”

With Jensen carrying the offense, the entire squad stepped up on the defensive end to ensure a win.

“Defense is our strength,” Rarick said. “We slow teams down and have fast athletic guards who can cover a lot of areas. We tell them we just need to work hard and be in the right spots and do some of the simple things great.”

The win keeps the Warriors tied atop the standings with Cedar

“We kind of get in our own way sometimes, but we believe we have the ability to win region,” Rarick said. “These girls have limitless potential.”

Snow Canyon will now turn their focus to Desert Hills, who they will battle on Tuesday at 7 p.m., looking to extend their unbeaten start to Region 9 play.

After the close loss, Hurricane (1-2) will travel to Dixie on Tuesday. The game will tip off at 7 p.m.

It was the Flyers’ first win of the Region 9 campaign. Pine View is now 0-3 in region play.

Cedar started strong, jumping out to a 15-2 lead in the first quarter. Canyon View’s only points of the period came on a basket by Ashlyn Banks.

Using a stifling defense that continued to force turnovers and missed shots, Lady Reds boosted their lead to 37-10 by halftime.

The two teams played evenly during the third period, each scoring 14 points. However, Cedar was able to extend its lead to as much as 40 during the fourth quarter, when all of its reserve players saw action.
