ST. GEORGE — To usher in the first luncheon of the year for the Washington County Republican Women, guest speaker Evan Vickers, a state senator representing Southern Utah, will discuss the recently passed Utah Medical Cannabis Act.

The luncheon is open to the public and will be held Thursday beginning at 11:30 a.m. in St. George at the Best Western Abbey Inn, 1129 S. Bluff Street. RSVP is required and can be completed online.

Washington County Republican Women President Lesa Sandberg said the theme for the luncheon is “Weed the People — answering your questions about medical marijuana legislation.”

The Utah Medical Cannabis Act, which replaced the medical marijuana law approved by voters in November, was recently passed by the Utah Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Gary Herbert. Vickers was one of the leading sponsors of this compromise bill and will answer questions about the act.

The Washington County Republican Women have been active in local politics for over 50 years seeking to educate women about current issues, the political process and Republican principles. More information about meetings and membership can be found at the Washington County Republican Women website.

Although I won’t be attending, it will be interesting to hear Vickers put the spin on how Utah lawmakers did not listen to the voice of the people on Prop. 2.

    • Utahguns January 7, 2019 at 4:36 pm

There’s two points of view on this topic: The view of the People who voted in favor of prop. 2, and the view of the Church.
I can only guess what point of view this paid mouthpiece will talk about.

“Vickers was one of the leading sponsors of this compromise bill and will answer questions about the act.”

That’s right. Put the scumbag who flushed the will of the voters right down the toilet out front on this.
I hope those who attend this meeting give him nothing but crap because that’s exactly what he gave voters.

So, anyone have any anecdotes about getting their Doctor to recommend MJ for themselves or someone they know?

    • Red2Blue310 January 7, 2019 at 8:45 pm

Yes. “Uh, what’s cannibus?” He said.

This is the ridiculous paradox we live in folks. The “legal” drug dealer (aka a Pharmacist) is going to lecture the public on the reason he needed to be deeply involved in the regulation of a plant that competes with the toxic drugs he profits from selling.

Absolute garbage. Who wants to pay 15 bucks to hear this clown? Is he gonna prattle on and on about how pot is destroying the youth? Whine about the devil’s skunk weed and how it’s a “gateway drug”? Tell us how much we should trust pharma and how pain patients are all better off on oxies? It better be a good lunch for $15. Maybe people can put ear plugs in while the clown is at the podium. Will there be an opening and closing prayer also?

Full-on clown circus. I guess I can’t call them LDS or mormon anymore because of the prophet’s new revelations, but whatever they are they always manage to be complete hypocrites and all about the $$$.

    • iceplant January 7, 2019 at 1:49 pm

I agree. What I find really interesting is the time in which they’re choosing to do this as well.
11:30 on a weekday isn’t exactly a time when a lot of folks can go and give their input. The $15 dollars is one thing. It’s the timing that really stinks. If they held something like this at night when people aren’t working, I guarantee it would be packed out the doors and “Mr. Compromise Bill” would get his lying backside handed to him. This is scheduled to receive the least amount of impact from pissed off voters and they know it. A chicken-…* move, imo.

          Oh wow, applauding edits now?
Your fascination with trolling my comments continues. Sad.

The chief troll is complaining about being trolled? Ain’t that the pot calling the kettle black?

          • iceplant January 8, 2019 at 9:06 am

You know all about trolling, Johnny Cat.

          • Happy Commenter January 8, 2019 at 12:12 pm

This Johnny Cat you keep referring to, He must be tickled that he lives in your head 24/7 rent free. It’s funny that you think you are being trolled by someone who hasn’t even posted anything…hahahahaha!

          • iceplant January 8, 2019 at 2:08 pm

I’m not the only one who has called you out, John. Everyone here knows exactly who you are. You changed your name because you got called out for being nothing but a troll. Now, you’re trying to deflect by pretending everyone is clueless to who you actually are. Your lies are tangled around your feet. Don’t trip!

  • tazzman January 7, 2019 at 2:07 pm

Ask him how much he and the LDS church made off of investments in companies connected to Big Pharma.

Sounds like you dope smoking losers need to pull your heads out of your butts and stop blaming others. This bill would have been the same regardless of pass or fail. Many voters knew that, and didn’t care to vote for it one way or the other, I guarantee that you would be squawking a different tone if it had failed, and they passed this compromise bill. As they said in the beginning, pass or fail, we will arrive at the same solution. Personally, I don’t like Vickers and would just be as well to get this crap and all you dopers out of here. It always boggles my mind to find so many people move here and then do nothing but complain. There are plenty of other states that do and allow exactly what you want. Move there.

    • iceplant January 7, 2019 at 6:04 pm

“dope smoking losers” …ZING! Haven’t heard that lame insult in a while. 😛

This bill would not have “been the same” because they changed what was voted on. I’m not sure what part of that is so hard for you to understand. They not only thwarted the will of voters but they flat-out gutted what the voters actually wanted.
Had this bill passed the way it was initially written, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. You know that just as well as I do.
Apparently, you’re okay with a rigged voting system run by a religious corporation and its talking point goon squad.

And the whole “move there” thing? Please. This state is so toxic it needs a colonic cleansing, badly. I’ll stay here and fight to change these arcane laws and change the minds of angry old white guys like yourself.

      Sincerely,
      A Dope Smoking Loser

  • utahdiablo January 7, 2019 at 9:26 pm

Yep, go to Mesquite…leave the weed out of Utah

    • iceplant January 8, 2019 at 6:48 am

      LOL
There’s so much weed already here. Toooo late.

      • Happy Commenter January 8, 2019 at 10:42 am

Then what are you crying about?

        • iceplant January 8, 2019 at 11:26 am

Apparently, you don’t read for comprehension. Do I really need to reiterate everything I’ve already said?

          • Happy Commenter January 8, 2019 at 12:07 pm

            You said..”LOL
There’s so much weed already here. Toooo late.” So what are the tears for?

          • iceplant January 8, 2019 at 2:06 pm

That life you think you have? I’d argue otherwise.

  • FowRizzle January 10, 2019 at 2:15 am
