ST. GEORGE Arrowhead Gallery invites the public to experience the raw beauty of nature with January’s featured artist, Charlie Kessner.

Kessner will be showing a number of additional new pieces in the gallery throughout the month.

A reception is set for Friday, Jan. 18, from 6-8 p.m at the gallery located at 68 E. Tabernacle Street, St. George.

Everyone is welcome to come meet the artist, view the art in the gallery and enjoy refreshments and music. The event is free and open to the public.

About Charlie Kessner

Kessner is a photographer, videographer, climber and adventurer whose eclectic style has led him to a life he loves. His inspiration is rooted in a childhood spent surrounded by natural beauty in the jungles and beaches of Oahu, Hawaii.

Since then, he has invested his time exploring places ranging from the landscapes of the American Southwest and Midwest to urban hubs in Europe and to desolate wilderness in Central and South America — all in pursuit of documenting natural beauty through the dynamics of nature and its intersection with human play.

“I love the process and pursuit of capturing light through cameras,” he said. “I love the creative process of planning and making my art, though the ultimate reason I take photos is for me and my memory.”

Kessner told St. George News he feels great about having his work in Arrowhead Gallery as a featured artist for January. Being an almost 100 percent digital photographer, he said having a print inventory is really important because it gives viewers something real they can touch, hang, appreciate and interact with.

Kessner, a field instructor for wilderness therapy, was drawn to the desert community of St. George where the canyons and climes have anchored him to the space and inspired him to continuously explore and feed his passions.

“It’s an amazing place filled with an incredible amount of local talent,” Kessner said.

When his life is moving so fast it seems like a blur from one adventure to another, Kessner said his photographs help take him back to every detail of those special experiences.

“When I take a photo I’m creating a marker to help myself access the emotions of a moment and memory at a different time and place in the future,” he said.
