FEATURE — For the “From Figures of Faith” series, St. George News reached out to the Interfaith Council of St. George and asked if they had a message about the holiday season they would like to share with our readers.
The following was submitted by Pastor Greg Wright of the Westside Baptist Church, located at 2299 W. 2000 North, St. George.
Is worship part of Christmas? When hearing the story of the wise men who came to visit Jesus after His birth, it is easy to focus on the miraculous parts of the story or be intrigued by the plotting of a wicked king to destroy the Christ child. However, remember that the primary purpose of the wise men was to worship Jesus.
Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him
And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh
Now, it is equally easy to focus on secondary aspects of the Christmas season (e.g. kindness, generosity, compassion) or even on the supernatural aspects of Christ’s birth and life but forget to actually worship Jesus. The Father is pleased when we worship His Son, Jesus.
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow … and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father
This Christmas would be a great time to fall down before the heavenly throne and worship Jesus as you celebrate His birth, His life, His sacrificial death and His offer of salvation.
