OZARKS, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri poacher has been ordered to repeatedly watch the movie “Bambi” as part of his sentence in a scheme to illegally kill hundreds of deer.

David Berry Jr. was ordered to watch the Disney classic at least once a month during his year-long jail sentence in what conservation agents have called one of the largest deer poaching cases in state history, the Springfield News-Leader reports.

“The deer were trophy bucks taken illegally, mostly at night, for their heads, leaving the bodies of the deer to waste,” said Don Trotter, the prosecuting attorney in Lawrence County.

Berry, his father, two brothers and another man who helped them had their hunting, fishing and trapping privileges revoked temporarily or permanently. The men have paid a combined $51,000 in fines and court costs — but the judge ordered a special addition to Berry’s sentence for illegally taking wildlife.

Court records show he was ordered by Lawrence County Judge Robert George to “view the Walt Disney movie Bambi, with the first viewing being on or before December 23, 2018, and at least one such viewing each month thereafter” while at the county jail.

Berry was also sentenced to 120 days in jail in nearby Barton County for a firearms probation violation.

His father, David Berry Sr., and his brother, Kyle Berry, were arrested in August after a nearly nine-month investigation that also involved cases in Kansas, Nebraska and Canada. The Missouri Department of Conservation said information from the investigation led to 14 Missouri residents facing more than 230 charges in 11 counties.

Investigators say David Berry Sr.’s other son, Eric Berry, was later caught with another person spotlighting deer, where poachers use light at night to make deer pause and easier to hunt.

The investigation into the Berrys began in late 2015, when the conservation agency received an anonymous tip about deer poaching in Lawrence County.

Iceplant and bikeandfish should be forced to watch the inauguration ceremony of Trump once a month so they’d appreciate all the good our president has done!

    • theone December 18, 2018 at 9:59 am

There is the one good thing he’s done to be sure. He has managed to shed light on how willfully ignorant evangelic conservatives have become.
No worries though, rational people are here to save us from this illegitimate Administration and all of you rightwing fanatics.

        You’re kidding, right?

        • iceplant December 18, 2018 at 12:11 pm

What part of his comment do you consider kidding? He speaks the truth.

        • theone December 18, 2018 at 1:09 pm

          It is no joke

      • tazzman December 18, 2018 at 1:18 pm

theone, your comment suggests there are enough rational people in America to save us.

Hahaha It’s a stretch, but it could happen.

    • iceplant December 18, 2018 at 12:03 pm

I already watch the Trump inauguration.
Any time I’m backed up and need to vacate the bowels, I turn on the Trump inauguration.
      Works like a charm.

Unless the Dems get their act together, do something to curb illegal immigration, and get rid of the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters, you just might have to endure part two.

      • Redbud December 18, 2018 at 2:46 pm

Good! That means you should be ready to bend over and take the inauguration of Trump in 2020, cause it’s on the way!

        • iceplant December 18, 2018 at 5:57 pm

What makes you think he’s even going to make it to 2020?
Why can’t you simply acknowledge that your president is a liar and criminal?
He’s under multiple criminal investigations for hell’s sake.
It’s a real shame that comments get edited here because it would allow me to truly put you in your place.
          You’re disgusting.

          • Redbud December 18, 2018 at 7:49 pm

The only thing disgusting are you and other liberals who watch the fake diatribe on CNN, and fully embrace it and believe it to be gospel. If CNN said that oranges are actually purple, not orange, you would believe it without hesitation, and get mad at anyone else who believed anything other than what the fake liberal media preaches.

          • iceplant December 18, 2018 at 8:56 pm

It’s not just CNN. I don’t even watch CNN.
It’s every single television network including Fox.
Your problem is that you simply cannot accept the truth or facts.
FACTS: Dotard is a criminal who is under investigation by the DOJ. Not only is he under investigation but his family and closest associates are also under investigation. So far, that investigation has produced counts against more than 30 people. Convictions of Manafort, Cohen, Papadopoulos, Flynn, Gates, van der Zwann, Patten, Pinedo, et al. Guilty pleas and jail time and we’re just gettin’ warmed up.
I don’t know what kind of crap news networks you get your info from but ALL of the big ones are reporting the same things. You cannot refute those facts. Without facts, you have nothing. Period.
            Keep screaming into the void.

    don’t feed the redbud troll

  • Kilroywashere December 18, 2018 at 5:12 pm

This order to watch the Disney classic, although once a month, brings to mind Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece “A Clockwork Orange,”. Well, after he is free, he can deprogram all the brainwashing by watching the famous classic animated short film, “Bambi vs. Godzilla”. I think in a period of one hour if you fast forward it through the credits, you might be able to squeeze in a hundred viewings.

I think it’s a fascinating study in human nature how some people continue to support T rump. I can’t imagine that they really don’t know what the charges are against him, his family and so many of past and current members of his administration. Even Fox reports on that. Watch Chris Wallace on Sunday. Have they ever heard the old expression, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire”? Do they continue to support him simply because he ran with a “R” after his name? Do they continue support because they don’t want to admit that it was a mistake to vote for him? Remember, the people of the United States didn’t elect him, the obsolete electoral college system did. How can so many people who think of themselves as morally “superior” continue to support a man who is so demonstrably morally degenerate and deficit?

My Gawd, I just don’t see how people continue to support a man who so habitually lies that he apparently doesn’t even know or care that he’s lying. Check out this site, for example: https://www.cheatsheet.com/culture/most-outrageous-lies-donald-trump-has-told.html/

People say, “Well, look at our great economy!” Great for the 1%, not so great for most everybody else. Just wait until the deficit hits such a level that we all have to pay the piper. Won’t be so pretty then. Economists are starting to forecast another recession already. Even T rump admits that it’s coming, but won’t be during his administration. For the last two years I’ve been saying, “Well, at least he hasn’t done anything to screw up the economy yet.” Well, with the tariffs and consequent trade war, it looks like he has. If you’ve got a portfolio, be very worried…

I wonder if all his supporters are just fine with what his EPA and Interior Department are doing and trying to do to the environment. Regulations are made for a reason, that is, people or corporations abuse the system. Is getting rid of all the consumer and environmental protections fine with his supporters? Granted some regulations are burdensome, but don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater as the old saying goes.
