CEDAR CITY — Featuring guest piano soloist Dr. Fang Zhang from Renmin University of China, Southern Utah University’s Music Masterwork Series will present the SUU Orchestra Concert Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Heritage Center Theater.

Music from Ludwig Van Beethoven, Franz Liszt and Dmitri Shostakovich will be performed throughout the evening.

The SUU Orchestra performs at least twice each semester, pulling from the standard orchestral repertoire, as well as modern compositions and arrangements. They also combine with the university choirs, opera and other ensembles in collaborative concerts.

This will be a life learning experience for SUU students.” Xun Sun, director of orchestral studies, said of the opportunity to perform with Zhang.

Zhang, who is the chairman of the music department of RUC, received a bachelor of music degree in piano at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. He earned a master of music at the Eastman School of Music, where he was awarded the Eastman Performers Certificate, the school’s highest award for distinction in performance.
