ST. GEORGE — Region 9’s high school girls soccer teams started regular-season play recently. Although a few games last week were postponed due to weather, each of the seven teams in the region has played between one and three games so far.

Here’s a recap of the action to date, along with a look ahead at Thursday’s contests. Games are listed in chronological order, starting last Thursday, Aug. 23.

Hurricane 1, Desert Hills 1

The Hurricane Lady Tigers visited Desert Hills Thursday in the region opener for both teams. Jenna Welch scored a goal for Desert Hills in the first half, but Hurricane’s Lena Stevens answered with an equalizer in the second half. Neither team scored again, despite two overtime periods.

Snow Canyon 1, Dixie 1

Playing at Dixie because Snow Canyon’s new field was not yet quite ready, the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie Friday. Senior Ashley Brindley netted the Lady Warriors’ goal in the first half, but Kelcee Call answered for Dixie in the second half.

Desert Hills 1, Pine View 0 (OT)

At Desert Hills Saturday, senior Shailee Stewart scored the game’s only goal in overtime. Goalkeeper Mikenna DeCastro picked up the shutout for the Lady Thunder.

Snow Canyon 8, Canyon View 0

In a game that had actually begun the previous week, the Lady Warriors shut out the visiting Falcons on Monday, with Heidi Smith and Arantxa Melendez each scoring two goals and four other players netting one apiece. Sophomore Tyler Mooring earned the shutout as the Warriors’ goalkeeper.

The game had started Aug. 21 at Hurricane’s home field, because Snow Canyon’s was not quite ready to play on yet. That game at Hurricane was called due to lightning after 20 minutes and the Warriors ahead 2-0. Monday, the contest resumed at Snow Canyon, with the Warriors scoring six more goals before the game ended early due to the mercy rule.

Dixie 4, Hurricane 1

At Dixie High on Monday, the Lady Flyers scored twice in each half, with junior Lindsey Barben netting a brace and Halee Barker and Isabel Erickson each adding a goal. Lena Stevens made Hurricane’s only score.

Desert Hills 3, Dixie 2 (OT)

At Dixie on Tuesday, Senior Kiki Stewart scored all three of the Lady Thunder’s goals, including the game-winner in overtime. Kelcee Call and Kennedy Warnick each made a goal for Dixie.
