PAROWAN — A vehicle burglary suspect was shot and wounded by a police officer during a confrontation at a truck stop in Parowan Thursday.
Lt. Del Schlosser of the Iron County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred at the Travel America travel center at 1150 N. 100 West, just off Interstate 15 Exit 78.
“At approximately 11:35 this morning, Cedar Communications received a phone call about a vehicle burglary here at the TA,” Schlosser told Cedar City News. “Multiple individuals were found entering multiple vehicles.”
“Officers arrived on scene and confronted them. An altercation occurred, and during that altercation shots were fired by one of the officers on scene.”
According to information released by the sheriff’s office Friday afternoon, the officer who fired his weapon was Enoch City Police Corporal Jeremy Dunn. Two suspects – a man and a woman – were involved in the confrontation, but only the woman was shot. She had been holding a screwdriver in her hand, according to the statement.
The woman, later identified by authorities as Ivonne Casimiro, 29, of Las Vegas, was shot twice in the leg, after which officers at the scene rendered medical assistance until emergency responders arrived. Casimiro was transported by ambulance to Cedar City Hospital and later to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.
Following release from the hospital, Casimiro was charged with one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, two counts of burglary of a vehicle, one count of resisting/interfering with a peace officer and one count of assault on a peace officer.
The male suspect, later identified as Jose Martin Flores, 34, of Las Vegas, was not injured and was taken into custody.
Flores was booked into the Iron County Jail on suspicion of two third-degree felony counts of vehicle burglary and one count of receiving or possessing a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony.
A third suspect, a man who authorities say was involved in the vehicle burglaries, but not the confrontation that led to the shooting, reportedly fled the scene on foot and was at large for nearly six hours before being arrested in Parowan shortly before 6 p.m.
That man, later identified as Michael Salvador Torres, 24, also of Las Vegas, reportedly changed clothes during the time he was being sought for questioning.
Torres was booked into Iron County Jail on suspicion of of two third-degree felony counts of vehicle burglary and one count of receiving or possessing a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony. Torress also faces a possible misdemeanor charge in connection with a theft between $500 and $1,500, according to the jail website.
No officers were injured in the incident.
Responding officers at the scene were from Parowan Police Department, Enoch Police Department and the Iron County Sheriff’s Office.
Tthe Iron County Critical Incident Task Force is investigating the incident.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

I’m with Hiker on this. It’s good to see they didn’t have to kill the guy. I’m originally from California (sorry) and there is was common for multiple officers to shoot at a suspect multiple times and still miss. True story, one time a few (3-4) years ago in the L.A. area police surrounded a vehicle (a large white Chevy Suburban) that they had just chased and stopped. When the driver inside made a threatening move, the officers opened fire. Reports stated that 77 shots were fired …..NOT ONE SHOT EVEN HIT THE VEHICLE ! didn’t even break a window. They were digging bullets out of nearby building, trees, grass, etc.

I honestly do not have the time to go thru all the public/police records to find the info you request, I didn’t think that some day I would have to “prove” anything to you. I am sure however , that if YOU do some research, you’d be able to find something on it. It was all over the local news when it happened. I’m also pretty sure you could easily find locals in the L.A. area that remember it also. I know 3 individuals as well as my wife that remember it. Unfortunately, we didn’t record the incident for you.

Southern Utah has some of the best police officers. When there is opportunity to shoot to kill, and most of us would find it justifiable, they dont do it. (I dont know about northern utah) It says alot about their character and training. I think other states could learn from these officers.

comments, yes you are correct. I wasn’t personally “on the scene” as this shooting was unfolding. I should have been more specific in that statement for Mrs. 42214. When I said I was there, I meant I lived there locally. At the time I wasn’t aware that it would be picked apart and made fun of. Apparently she has an obsession with details and making fun of people.
This incident unfolded LIVE on local T.V. and was re-broadcast many times throughout the day. Thousands (if not millions .) watched it. So yes, I lived there, I was not personally there at the actual scene, I watched it unfold on live T.V. I have no idea if Ron White has done a bit on it. I wish he would as it appears Mrs. 42214 gets most of her real news from comedians .
