Missing woman found dead near paved trail in St. George

ST. GEORGE — The body of a woman who was reported missing last week was found Monday near the Sand Hollow Wash Trail, a paved trail that’s close to Tuweap Drive in St. George.

Amanda Matthews, 23, died from an apparent suicide, St. George Police officer Lona Trombley said. Search and Rescue crews located Matthews’ body Monday morning. Police had asked for the public’s help in locating Matthews on Sunday after she was reported missing Wednesday.

There is no evidence to suggest foul play, Trombley said.

    thats very sad. i’m led to believe there are a lot more suicides in this area than we would ever suspect. One of the leading causes of deaths of young people in UT is it? Not even sure what to think about it. its terrible.

      It is awful and sad for anyone to feel they have to end their own life. Bit it’s just just Utah that has this issue. Suicide is one of the leading cause of deaths in this age group in the United States. So sorry for her family.

        bs. utah has one of the worst suicide rates.
