Jon Douglas Gentry

June 18, 1974 – June 14, 2018

Jon Douglas Gentry, passed away June 14, 2018, just four days before his 44th birthday. Jon was born in St George, Utah, to Douglas and Donna Leavitt Gentry.

Jon is survived by his parents Doug and Donna Gentry; his brother Brad (Sarah) Gentry; his sisters Lindy (Eric) Beese and
Lauren (James) Hunt; his longtime girlfriend Stephanie Hayden Lyons and her daughters Kenzie
(daughter Sophia) and Chloe; 14 nieces and nephews.

Jon grew up in St George. He attended West Elementary, Dixie Middle School, Pine View High School and Dixie College. He married Veronica (Ronnie) Walters in 2001. They later divorced.

Jon loved nature and the outdoors. He was a great dutch oven cook, a dead ringer with a slingshot and proficient at building a fire with a bow drill. He worked in the wilderness as a field supervisor at Red Cliff Ascent and he was also a favorite senior male staff member at Majestic Ranch, both programs for troubled youth. Jon worked in the health care industry and was always a favorite among the patients. He loved art and underestimated his talent as an artist. Jon used that talent as a painter at the Blue Table Group where he painted and sold miniature figurines and terrain. He has produced numerous pieces of art.

Jon deeply loved his friends and family. He will be missed by so many.

Funeral services

  • Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 20, at 11 a.m., at the LDS Chapel, 1148 N. Dixie Downs Road, St. George, Utah.
  • Visitation services will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. at the same location.
  • Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery.
