ST. GEORGE — Scotty McCreery, the country singer famous for winning American Idol in 2011, is coming to St. George for a patriotic concert on the Fourth of July.
The concert is part of the “4th of July Celebration” hosted by 99.9 KONY Country.
The 24-year-old star from North Carolina will be performing in Dixie State University’s Trailblazer Stadium at a show that will also feature the biggest fireworks show in Southern Utah, food trucks and special guest Tim Gates.
This week, McCreery is getting married in North Carolina and heading off to honeymoon at an undisclosed tropical location, McCreery’s day manager Scott Stem said. His next day back to work will be the 4th of July Celebration in St. George, Stem said.
Because of his honeymoon and wedding, McCreery was not available to comment about coming to Southern Utah next month to perform, but Stem said McCreery is always excited to come to Utah, where he usually performs once or twice a year.
“He feels like the country is beautiful in Utah and it’s a great time for him and his band because when they come out to Utah; they usually schedule a day to get out in nature,” Stem said. “They like to hike and they love to do different things around Utah outdoors.”
McCreery’s music is “dyed in the wool” country music that is inspired by classic country artists like Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson and Randy Travis. A lot of the songs that will be featured in the 4th of July Celebration will be from his most recent album “Seasons Change.”
“His music is really reflective of who he is,” Stem said. “Every song (on ‘Seasons Change’) is based on an experience he went through, a person that he knows — it truly is him.”
He will also sing a lot of his hits from his previous albums as well, including several classic country cover songs.
McCreery’s concerts are always high energy and family friendly, which sets him apart from other artists. Not a lot of artists nowadays have music that 5-year-old fans can enjoy alongside the 80-year-olds, Stem said.
“When you see him live, he’s having a ball. This is his dream that he’s wanted since he was 2 or 3 years old, and he’s very aware that he’s fortunate in what he gets to do. He just loves entertaining people and giving them a good evening.”
