Karla Welch

Aug. 26, 1946 — May 26, 2018

Heaven gained a sweet angel on May 26, 2018. Karla Braswell Welch passed through the veil in to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.

Karla was born on Aug. 26, 1946, in Ontario, Oregon, to Claud and Elvabelle Mae Wood Braswell. Karla’s early years were spent on the Whipple Ranch in Lund, Nevada, and the Nutter Ranch in Roosevelt, Utah. When Karla was 7 years old, her parents moved to Veyo, Utah, where they purchased and operated a Dairy Farm.

Karla married her high school sweetheart, Jimmie Lloyd Welch, on Feb. 15, 1964, in Veyo. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Karla was employed by Washington County School District where she worked in the food service. Karla was also a prior president of the Utah Food Service Association. Karla enjoyed being a hunter safety instructor and 4-H troop leader, cooking, sewing, hunting, fishing, camping and going on the annual family horseback/pack trips up over Pine Valley Mountain.

Karla is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Jimmie Lloyd Welch of Veyo, Utah; their four children: Josh (Alena) Welch of Veyo, Shanna (Trent) Oldroyd of Veyo, Edward (Lisa) Welch of St George, Utah, and Katie (Carlos) RoaOrea of Veyo; 26 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Claudia (Randy) Bowler of West Jordan, Utah; Aunt Della Knapp; Aunt Wanda Braswell Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

Karla was preceded in death by her parents, Claud Braswell, and Elvabelle Mae Wood Braswell; fathers-in-law Charles Joshua Welch and Walter Jerome Shelly; and mother-in-law Rebecca Jane Holmes Welch Shelly.

The family would like to thank Dr. Doug Callahan, Katherine and the Callahan Clinic; Dr. De Siabro; Helle Brand and staff; and Terrill Clove and the staff at Meadows memory cre unit in St George, Utah, for their loving care and support during Mom’s stay.

Mom, we will miss you. You were the rock and glue that kept us all together.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Karla’s memory to the Meadows Memory Care Unit in St. George, Utah.

Funeral services

  • Funeral services will be held June 2 at 10 a.m. in the Veyo LDS Ward Chapel in Veyo, Utah.
  • First visitation: Friday, June 1, from 6-8 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff, St. George, Utah.
  • Second visitation: Saturday, June 2, one hour prior to services from 9-10 a.m. at Veyo Ward Chapel.
  • Interment: Veyo City Cemetery.
