Howard Earsel Ashby

May 28, 1929 — Sept. 19, 2017

Howard Earsel Ashby, 88, passed away peacefully in his home in Hurricane, Utah, on Sept. 19. He was born in Woods Cross, Utah, on May 28, 1929, to Briant Earsel and Isabell Clark Ashby.

He married the love of his life, Nola Rae Talbot, on Nov. 7, 1946, in Clearfield, Utah. They were happily married and forged through the challenges of life, side by side, for 71 years. Together they raised seven children: Linda Rae Evans (Lyle), Howard Michael Ashby (Kathie), Betty Jo Ashby, Sessel Clark Ashby (Erica), Marty E. Ashby (Jackie), Cary Lane Ashby and Royal Talbot Ashby (Susan).

Howard was raised in Kaysville, Utah, where his family opened the first cold-storage plant in Utah. They later moved to Clearfield, where they owned a cabinet shop, which began Howard’s love and passion for building and working with his hands. He met his sweetheart, Nola, in Clearfield at North Davis Junior High School. They were later married and started their wonderful adventure together.

Together Howard, Nola and their family built and lived in many areas throughout the western United States. He was passionate about life, devoted, and had a great love for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He taught and passed on the love of his trade and hard work to his family. Throughout his life, he enjoyed his horses, building, working, fishing, hunting, traveling and telling stories about his great adventures.

Howard was reunited with his parents; his four siblings, Donald C. Ashby, Roy Dale Ashby, Dorothy Dahling and Betty Jean Bell; and two children, Betty Jo Ashby and Cary Lane Ashby, who preceded him in death.

The family would like to thank the caregivers from Intermountain Homecare and Hospice for the care they provided for Howard in his final stages of life.
