IVINS — Cast members from this year’s season of Tuacahn’s Broadway-style productions are holding a concert Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Hafen Theater to raise money for arts education in underserved communities.
The concert, “Stargazing: Cabaret for a Cause,” will feature performances by several members of the casts of all three productions: “Shrek: The Musical,” Disney’s “Newsies” and “Mamma Mia.”
“We have some incredibly talented actors,” said Spencer Ramirez, a cast member in all three shows. “This is a chance for them to show their strengths.”
Ramirez added that the audience will have the opportunity to hear musical numbers from productions that won’t come to the Tuacahn stage for a long time as they are still running on Broadway.
Money raised from the concert will go to the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS organization which, among other charitable work, raises money to sponsor grants that help bring arts education to underserved communities.
With arts education and funding for arts programs on the chopping block, Ramirez said, cast members wanted to give back in a way that spreads positivity and teaches the principles that can be found with education in the arts.
Ramirez praised Washington County for its strong emphasis in the arts, citing the many community theaters and Tuacahn High School, particularly, as examples of the great things that can happen in the arts.
But not every community is so lucky, Ramirez said, which is why the casts agreed that putting on the benefit would be a worthwhile use of their time.
Tickets for the show are $10 for students with identification, $15 for general admission and $50 for a VIP experience. The VIP experience includes VIP seating and a reception with the cast and crew after the show.
