Sept. 15, 1926 — Sept. 3, 2017
Donna Louise Edwards Farnsworth quietly passed away Sept. 3, 2017, at The Meadows Memory Care Center in St. George, Utah. She was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Panaca, Nevada to Harvey Clair Edwards and Ivy Louise Adair Edwards. She married Clayton E. Farnsworth in the Salt Lake temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Aug. 29, 1947.
Donna spent her childhood years in Panaca, Nevada, where she graduated from Lincoln County High School. She loved Panaca and had many friends and fond memories of growing up in a small town. After graduation she worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for a time until her marriage. Upon her marriage to Clayton, she moved to Provo, where she helped Clayton finish his education at Brigham Young University.
In 1951, Donna and Clayton moved back to Panaca until 1961, when they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1979, they again moved to St. George where they have called home since.
Mom’s home was her castle, she loved to cook. Her meals and dinner invitations where eagerly accepted by many. Her breads, rolls and cakes were the best. She loved to garden and spent many hours carefully bottling the fall harvests. We always had delicious fruits and vegetables available and she gave generously to neighbors and friends. She was a fabulous seamstress. Many beautiful outfits were made for family and friends. Special afghans and quilts were made for family and friends. She loved being outdoors and spent many wonderful hours roaming the hills, camping, fishing and cooking. She loved deer season.
Donna loved to travel with Clayton, friends and family. They toured many states and national parks as well as Mexico and Canada.
Donna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Primary, Relief Society, Sunday School and was a long-time Temple Worker in the St. George LDS Temple, where she made many friends. She spent many years as a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in St. George. She and Clayton served a mission in Orange County, California.
Donna is survived by her children: Ronald (Kathleen) Farnsworth, Julie (Gilbert) McLachlin, Keith (LeeAnn) Farnsworth, and Dawnette (Reed) Piggott; daughter-in-law, Roma Farnsworth; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; brother, Harvey D. “Bud” Edwards and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clayton; and son, Harold Farnsworth.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at the Meadows for the love and kindness given to mom over the past four years. Also for the care and love from Canyon Home Care and Hospice.
Funeral services
- Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. St. George Boulevard., St. George.
- Visitations will be Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday, prior to services, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
- Interment will be in the Holt Family Cemetery, Enterprise, Utah.
