Weather advisory warns of penny-sized hail and powerful wind gusts

ST. GEORGE — The National Weather Service has issued a significant weather advisory Monday evening for south central Washington County in effect until 6:30 p.m. MDT.

At 5:42 p.m. MDT, National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm over Santa Clara moving southeast at 20 mph.

Penny-size hail and wind gusts of 40 to 55 mph will be possible.

Affected areas

Locations impacted include St George, Washington City, Santa Clara and Ivins.

Precautions

If threatening weather approaches, take shelter in a sturdy building.

Strong winds with showers may occur well ahead of any rain. The National Weather Service advises that residents do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover.
