Shortly after 1 p.m. emergency responders were dispatched to a car fire that was reported on Interstate 15 southbound at the Cedar Pocket off-ramp, St. George Fire Capt. Tyler Talbot said.

Upon arrival firefighters saw flames coming from the Honda and were able to extinguish the blaze.

“We were sent to the scene to assist Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire Department and sent an Engine 28 from Station 8 that was able to respond and extinguish the fire,” Talbot said.

The fire appeared to have started in the engine compartment and then spread to the passenger compartment by the time fire crews arrived.

“The fire basically consumed the vehicle, and I’d say it’s a total loss,” the fire captain said.

Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire sent an ambulance that remained on scene. The driver escaped without injury and no other injuries were reported.

The Arizona Highway Patrol division of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, St. George Fire Department and Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire and Ambulance responded and tended to the scene.

This report is based on statements from police or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
